‘Watts for Dinner’: Señor Taco for authentic Mexican flavor
If you are willing to traverse a couple of traffic roundabouts, there’s this unassuming corner restaurant smack dap in the middle of Old 41 in Bonita Springs with some of the best tacos in Southwest Florida.
Upon entering, I immediately saw a couple of things I really liked – a salsa bar and all the roasted peppers and onions I could ask for.
I order a combination platter that consisted of two tacos and a sope (it looks like a thick corn tortilla with fixins’ on top). For my tacos, carnitas (shredded seasoned pork) and for my sope, tinga (shredded seasoned chicken).
The tacos came with cilantro and onions. I choose the green salsa with avocado to accompany. The carnitas were cooked to perfection and had an amazing not-too-spicy, but just-spicy-enough flavor. Being a Gringo, I could have used a bit less cilantro, but waste not, want not.
The salsa was amazing.
The sope was topped with lettuce, tomato and Mexican cheese crumbles. It was a delight, with all white meat chicken, a generous portion of cheese and a kick that I usually don’t get from tinga.
My partner in dine ordered the gorditas platter with rice and beans. For those of you who don’t know, the gorditas are large pastry-like pockets filled with meat. The texture is much like my sope. His was also filled with carnitas.
His only complaint: no cilantro and onions in the gorditas. I wish he had told me sooner.
