How do you know you’re in a sports bar? If you are surrounded by big screens and you’re not at CNN or Best Buy, chances are, you are at a sports bar. And on that front, 2Shea's Salty Dog does not disappoint. There are lots of TVs.

Things got off to a somewhat appetizing start with the mojo pork tostadas – two crispy corn tortillas topped with mojo pulled pork, onions, cheddar cheese, cilantro and pico de gallo. If you are expecting finger food, beware, by the time our plate arrived, the tortillas had given way to the moisture of the pork, leaving you to grab a fork.

The mojo was a bit too tangy and left me with a vinegar-like aftertaste. Perhaps it would be better to ditch the mojo in favor of salsa verdi. The meat was lean and tasty.

For his main dish, my partner in dine had the Philly cheesesteak ($11.95) – shaved sirloin beef with peppers, onions and cheese. It comes with slaw; or for a slight upcharge, you can choose fries or onion rings. He went with the slaw. The meat was a little on the dry side; but otherwise a solid performer. The slaw wasn’t award winning, but nothing to complain about.

For my entrée, the chicken ciabatta, grilled chicken topped with provolone cheese, bacon, slaw and onion straws ($11.95). The bacon was cooked to perfection; the chicken was an all-white-meat breast; a tender and moist filet. The sandwich features slaw and onion straws on top; but I opted to order the onion rings anyway.

The sandwich was huge and came to the table open-faced. Once I stacked it, it was too large for my mouth – and that’s a good thing. So, I knife and forked it. Awesome and filling sandwich.

For me, the onion rings stole the show. They stayed crisp throughout the mean, never turning soggy.

Looking back, I wished I had tried the namesake hotdog; but I always fear not liking the dish. And let’s face it, if you name yourself after a dish, you’d better to it well.
