One of my favorite things when eating at a Mexican restaurant, is that you typically have food as soon as you sit down. And this proved true at Señor Tequila's with a basket filled with multi-colored corn chips along with two salsas, mild and hot. Although the hot was in the blue dish and the mild was in the red dish, and that left me a bit confused. It doesn’t take much people.

For my main entrée, I picked the chile relleno ($15.99), a poblano chile stuffed with mozzarella and fresh Mexican cheese dipped in egg batter and fried to golden brown. You don’t find this dish at all Mexican restaurants and when you do, it’s often just stuffed with cheese. At Señor Tequila's you can add chicken, shredded beef or ground beef. It is served with rice, refried beans topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole and sour cream.

I picked ground beef (usually I go with chicken when given the option, but I had a craving). The meat was lean, thank goodness. And the dish was a solid performer with generous amounts of cheese.

It might seem like a simple thing, but rice can be tricky. Señor Tequila's was a tad dry but still tasted great.

My partner in dine picked the chile verde ($15.50), chucks of pork swimming in a green sauce; served with rice, refried beans topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole and sour cream.

The pork was lean and roasted to perfection. The sauce is mild and the perfect compliment to the pork.

With four locations from Fort Myers to Golden Gate, you’re never too far away from Señor Tequila's, which has the right blend between authentic Mexican flavor and a more Americanized sensibility.
