‘Watts for Dinner’: Snook Inn improves on already great experience

Our next Marco Island food adventure took place at the Snook Inn, where diners arrive both by boat and car; and where the dolphins play within feet of your table.

While there are plenty of tempting appetizers, like the amazing calamari, pace yourself; because each meal comes with one complimentary trip to the salad bar.

On this day, we started with the chilled shrimp cocktail; six chilled white gulf shrimp, fresh lemon and house made cocktail sauce. An interesting observation, half the shrimp came with the tails removed; and all were served over ice. It was a nice light start.

A few notes about the salad bar. There’s a barrel full of pickles; amazing potato salad that shouldn’t be missed (I like adding the bacon bits to mine) and fresh bread at the end; along with expected ingredients like lettuce, tomato and a variety of dressings.

For my main dish, I picked the Snook Inn platter, with grouper, mahi mahi, scallops, shrimp, a petit crab cake swimming in a mild lemon sauce, topped with vegetables; along with a side of rice pilaf.

Where to begin? So, all the fish was amazing; with generous amounts of scallops and shrimp. The crab cake was a little moist for my taste; but still delicious. Visually the dish was stunning. I was extremely happy with my choice.

My partner in dine selected the seafood scampi; containing a half lobster tail, scallops, shrimp, breadcrumbs, in garlic butter, roasted tomato and vegetables. His dish was equally stunning, and the garlic sauce combined perfectly with all the ingredients, especially the lobster.

Since my last visit to the Snook Inn in June 2018, the place has upgraded their décor. While not a complete redo, the new touches freshen up the place.

Also, there was some new faces in the way of wait staff. Friendly, kind folks who made pleasant conversation and took care of our needs. My compliments to the entire staff for a delicious meal and great service.

During our first visit we sampled the Florida Gulf shrimp, buffalo style, served with blue cheese dressing, as the appetizer. Amazing!

On that day, I also had the Caribbean fish tacos. Fresh blackened mahi-mahi served on soft blended corn/flour tortillas. It’s served with remoulade slaw, shredded cheese and Pico de Gallo, all on the side.

You can choose rice and beans, fries or fruit as your side. I stayed in theme, choosing the former.

My friend-in-dine ordered the grouper fingers with fries. I’m always slightly appalled, yet a little bit jealous, when deep fried food shows up at the table

While I enjoyed our visit last year I had to say that this year’s visit was even better. Snook Inn gets my award for most improved thus far.

And I wasn’t kidding. Several times during our meal we had to stop and watch the wildlife and the boaters just outside our window.
