Not your final answer: Jimmy Kimmel to host ABC's 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' revival

PASADENA, Calif. – ABC is reviving one-time super-hit "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," with late night's Jimmy Kimmel taking the reins as the quiz show's host.

"Millionaire" will return for "a special run" of episodes on its 20th anniversary, featuring celebrity contestants starting April 8, the network announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Association. Prize winnings will go to charity.

"Millionaire" become a national phenomenon when the British import premiered on ABC in the summer of 1999 and it became an ABC primetime series running from 2000 to 2002. Host Regis Philbin's famed catchphrase, "Is that your final answer?," became a cultural touchstone on the series, which ran in syndication until May 2019.

“Regis came to me in a dream, asked me to do this and promised my own line of neckties if I did.  I had little choice but to say yes,” Kimmel said in a statement.

The rebooted version contains a couple of new twists. In addition to phone a friend, ask the audience and 50/50, contestants will be able to invite a guest – a relative, a teacher or even a famous trivia expert – to help them answer the increasingly difficult questions.  

With advancements in technology, the updated version will introduce a live, play-along app that will allow viewers to compete for the same amount of money celebrities are playing for on the show.

Celebrity contestants will be announced at a later date.
