Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island held its end of season luncheon on April 11 at Marco Island Country Club.

Chairpersons of the event, Kathy McNabb, Margy Bruckman and Janet Watson, requested members to wear floral apparel, and members appeared in flowered dresses and blouses, in pastels, in bright colors, and even in black and white.

The table centerpieces of flowers surrounding glass cake stands holding cupcakes decorated with flowers continued the theme. President Kimberly Korb Porter thanked the members for a great 2023-2024 year of activities with the club.

Second Vice President Kathy Stark presented four new members for induction and they are pictured with their sponsors and club officers. The new members presented include Audrina Flowers, Marisa Iwicki, Gretchen Nash and Pam Bodenhamer.

Jo-Ann Carroll, Sue Oldershaw and Lindy Kowalczyk.

The program for the afternoon was presented by floral designers Lindy Kowalczyk and Sue Oldershaw, who demonstrated how to prepare a basket with house plants, including both leafy green and flowering plants, accented by cut flowers in water containers placed artistically among the plants.

This type of display, traditionally called “Pot-et-Fleur,”  was popular in the Victorian Era and is making a comeback among floral designers.

The beautiful design was won as a door prize by Jo-Ann Carroll.  The photo shows the completed design with Jo-Ann Carroll on the left, Sue Oldershaw and Lindy Kowalczyk.
