17 Lee County restaurants get zero violations on health and safety inspections

From burger joints to the new Popstroke Bar & Restaurant, a record 17 Lee County restaurants aced recent health and safety inspections.

Here's the breakdown for recent inspections in Lee County:

Restaurant Inspections

In a record-breaking couple of weeks, 17 full-service and fast-food restaurants received zero violations on their health and safety inspections, including: the Five Guys at 12031 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs; Sanibel's Best Homemade Ice Cream at 362 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel; the opening-soon Popstroke Bar & Restaurant at 5551 Six Mile Commercial Court, Fort Myers; the Taco Bell at 11290 Summerlin Square Blvd., Fort Myers Beach; Mission BBQ at 12984 S. Cleveland Ave., south Fort Myers; the new location of LaMotta's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant at 303 NE Third Ave., Cape Coral; Downtown House of Pizza at 1520 Hendry St., Fort Myers; Bullig Coffee & Bites at 1815-1 Fowler St., Fort Myers; the Subway at 24830 S. Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs; Joe's Crab Shack at 2024 W. First St., Fort Myers; the Taco Bell at 1616 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral; the Burger King at 26789 S. Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs; Caffe Toscano at 12901 McGregor Blvd., south Fort Myers; Begonia's Restaurant at 2215 Winkler Ave., Fort Myers; Mr. G's House of 2000 Flavors at 1000 Fifth St., Fort Myers Beach; the McDonald's at 14985 S. Tamiami Trail, south Fort Myers; and The Pizza Cutter at 5660 Bayshore Road No. 30, North Fort Myers.

The Lee restaurants that accumulated the most violations in mid and late August are:

Busters Sports Tavern & Family Eatery at 16681 Mcgregor Blvd., south Fort Myers was cited for 25 violations in an Aug. 18 inspection. Thirteen of the infractions were basic, with seven being intermediate. High-priority violations included: a dented can of black olives and another of tomato juice; an employee who failed to wash their hands before putting on gloves and handling food; raw beef stored over packaged tortillas; chemicals stored by or with food on the cook line; and a sanitizer solution that exceeded the maximum allowed concentration. A followup inspection was required but has not been filed. 

Ichiyummy Sushi & Hibachi at 3922 Del Prado Blvd. S., Cape Coral received 23 violations in an Aug. 13 inspection. Of those, 14 were basic and four were intermediate. High-priority violations included: dish machine chlorine sanitizer not at proper minimum strength; raw chicken stored over raw shrimp in the walk-in cooler; two live roaches observed crawling on a wall above the food-prep sink; foods held at improper temperatures; and chemicals stored near clean utensils. Ichiyummy underwent a followup inspection Aug. 14. Another followup was required, but it has not been filed.
