Watts: Eat and be merry – Great prices, seasonal flavors at Tropical Smoothie Café

Seasonal flavors brought us to our next dining destination, Tropical Smoothie Cafe on Marco Island.

Thinks got off to a merry start with the “Cranberry Truffle Smoothie” ($5.49). It’s got strawberries, cranberries, non-fat yogurt and white chocolate. It’s smooth, satisfying and delicious. There’s also a chocolate version if that suits you better.

Two other limited-time options also brought us by, the new “Chicken Chorizo ‘Dilla” ($7.99) and the “Chicken Chorizo Wrap” ($9.49).

The ‘Dilla, short for quesadilla, features chicken chorizo, roasted pineapple salsa, queso blanco, a cheddar and smoked cheese blend in a pressed flour tortilla with a side of roasted tomato salsa. It’s a great blend, and yes, the pineapple works!

The wrap also features chicken chorizo, rice, black beans, a smoked cheese blend, crispy southwest tortilla strips, romaine and creamy avocado dressing in a toasted flour tortilla. While the ‘Dilla was good, the wrap was great. I loved the crispy strips inside.

While there, we also picked up dinner.

I picked one of my favorites, the “Turkey Bacon Ranch” sandwich ($9.59). In addition to the namesake turkey, bacon and lite ranch, it has tomatoes, Romaine lettuce and Swiss cheese on a ciabatta roll.

My dining companion opted for the “Thai Chicken Salad” ($9.39). It features grilled chicken, carrots, cilantro, scallions and wontons on a bed of romaine and is topped with a Thai peanut dressing. It was a solid performer.

We also sampled some sides, the “Maple-Kissed Sweet Potatoes” ($1.59 with an item like the sandwich or salad). We only wished it had made out a tad longer with the maple.

We also had a personal favorite of my dining companion, the “Kale & Apple Cole Slaw.”

We also left with a couple of other seasonal favorites, snickerdoodle cookies ($1.99 each).

The best part? A wrap, quesadilla, two smoothies, a sandwich, a large salad, two bags of chips, two sides and two cookies (two entire meals for two people) for under $60. That’s hard to beat!

Service was friendly and the place was clean and airy. Happy eating!
