‘Watts for Dinner’: Stan's Idle Hour – Awesome food, drinks and the Mullet Festival

Our next doing destination is Stan’s Idle Hour in Goodland. While it’s only been a year since our last visit, we felt it was a good time to visit as the famed Mullet Festival is slated for Feb.2-4 (next weekend!).

It’s one of the area’s quirkiest and fun festivals. Great live music and the annual Buzzard Lope dance contest, culminating with the crowning of the new Buzzard Lope Queen!

The Mullet Festival celebrates Old Florida at its finest and carries on the traditions established by the late Stan Gober. It was he who cultivated the Buzzard Lope Dance, depicting the strange moves that the birds do as they hover over roadkill.

You’ll do your own dance for Stan’s food and drinks! We started our evening off with one of our favorite adult beverages, the “Frozen Mudslide” ($13) featuring Stoli vanilla, Kahlua and Baileys. This is an awesome drink!

On the food side, things got off to an appetizing start with the boneless wings ($14 for 10). We asked for the buffalo. They come with blue cheeses and ranch for dipping. The thing I love most about these wings, other than no bones, is that the buffalo sauce is tasty without being uncomfortably hot. Love ‘em.

For my main dish, I selected the mahi mahi sandwich ($18), blackened, with sweet potato fries. This is a huge filet! It comes with lettuce, tomato and a lemon wedge. It was cooked to perfection and super satisfying. I highly recommend this sandwich.

My dining companion picked the grouper tacos ($22 for two), blackened. He also got the sweet potato fries and coleslaw. He was very happy with his choice.

Stan’s has the nicest crew, especially the servers. And you’ll be intrigued and entertained with the atmosphere and waterside dining, begging seabirds and all.

Come to Stan’s for the drinks, the food, the entertainment and if you’ve never been, the Mullet Festival. You’ll be glad you did. Happy eating!
