Michael Strahan will move from Kelly Ripa's couch to full-time co-anchor of ABC's 'Good Morning America' earlier than expected, leaving 'Live' on May 13.

Now that he's reunited with Kelly Ripa as a happy talk-show couple, Michael Strahan will exit Disney's Live! with Kelly and Michael much sooner than expected.

Though Disney said earlier this month that Strahan would stick around until August before moving full-time to ABC's Good Morning America, his  last day will be May 13, little more than two weeks from now, confirmed Disney ABC spokesman Kevin Brockman.

"After meeting with producers of both Live! and Good Morning America, and after speaking with both Kelly and Michael, we have decided on a plan that best advantages both shows for the future," he said in a statement. "To that end, Michael's last day on Live! will be Friday, May 13, which not only gives the show a chance to have a nice sendoff during the May (sweeps), but to also immediately begin the on-air search for a new co-host. This plan also allows GMA to start integrating Michael into the show more often this summer, before his full-time start in September."

Ripa's return to 'Live!' is all smiles following Strahan strife

On-air tryouts, like those used to audition Strahan for the job in 2011 and 2012, will begin May 16, though no new co-hosts have been named yet. Live! airs several weeks of reruns in late summer.
