Hurricane Irma: Fuel supplies low or out at stations in Collier County

The BP in Golden Gate still had regular gas Wednesday for people trying to fill up in preparation for Hurricane Irma. 

There still were 4,000 gallons of regular, priced at $2.59 per gallon, at the gas station, 4707 Golden Gate Parkway, as of late Wednesday morning. Owner Gordon Love said the price could go up because prices were rising throughout the county. 

"It tough to put them up when people are waiting in line for gas," Love said. 

Love owns the BP station with his brother and father. They were expecting a shipment of 9,000 more gallons of regular about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He was not sure about after  that.

"It's day by day right now," Love said.

Their gas station is getting its shipments from Tampa, but the oil is refined in northern Texas, which was relatively undamaged by Harvey, the hurricane that devastated Houston last week. 

Love's station appeared to have more gas than others, but he said it still was being rationed and the station was out of premium and diesel fuel.

The Naples Daily News spoke with five other gas stations in the county Wednesday morning. Of those, only Marathon Gas stations in East Naples and Ochopee still had gas and they were running low on supply levels as well. 

The Marathon gas station is at 8901 Davis Blvd., and the price per gallon for regular is $2.99 in cash and $3.09 on credit. The Ochopee station is at 203 Collier Ave., and the price per gallon for regular is $2.49. 

The Ochopee station was expecting a shipment of 6,000 to 9,000 gallons early Thursday. 

On Marco Island, gas is running low or completely out. 

At 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Marco Police Department reported no fuel available on the island. At 9:47 a.m., several gas stations on the island reportedly had fuel, but levels were low. 

The Naples Daily News contacted three gas stations on the island, and all three were almost or completely out of fuel by noon Wednesday. The stations include Marathon on San Marco Road, which still had about 300 gallons left and won't be receiving any more fuel until next week. 

The Texaco and 7-Eleven stations on Bald Eagle Drive ran out of fuel. Staff at Texaco reported the station might get more fuels by Wednesday night or Thursday.
