Coronavirus in Lee County: What you need to know Wednesday, July 1

The Florida Department of Health reported 281 additional COVID-19 cases in Lee County on Wednesday, increasing the county's total number to 5,869.

Those new positive cases resulted from a total of 853 tests reported Wednesday by the state for Lee County. That's a positivity rate of 32.9%.

The department also verified one additional COVID-19 related death for Lee County, increasing total fatalities to 159.

On Wednesday, Lee's overall positivity rate increased to 10.22%, the highest its been since April 23 when it was 11.66% and the county had 887 cases. The state's overall positivity rate is 8.02%.

A total of 596 people in Lee County have been hospitalized for COVID-19 as of Wednesday according to the report, but that number does not reflect the people currently in the hospital, according to the Florida Department of Health. 

The Florida Department of Health is not reporting how many people have recovered from COVID-19.
