Marco Island firefighter, 26, accused of sending lewd photos to girl

Red and blue signal light siren.

A Marco Island firefighter was arrested Friday on suspicion of sending lewd photos to a girl.

Nicholas Macchiarolo, 26, faces two felony charges of transmission of harmful material to a minor and one felony charge of using a computer to seduce, solicit or lure a child.

A woman contacted the Collier County Sheriff's Office on Thursday because she thought her juvenile daughter was "engaging in sexual activity" with a man, according to an arrest report.

During an interview, the girl told a detective she and Macchiarolo had known each other for years and started messaging each other on Snapchat in November 2017, the report states.

The girl told detectives the messages turned sexual in January and that Macchiarolo had sent her at least two photos of his penis, according to the report. The girl told authorities that Macchiarolo had talked about having sex with her, the report states.

A detective talked to Macchiarolo at his job. Macchiarolo told the detective he thought the juvenile was 21, the report states. The rest of his statement was redacted from the report.

Macchiarolo was placed on unpaid administrative leave after his arrest, according to an emailed statement from Marco Island Fire Chief Michael Murphy.

"The Marco Island Fire Rescue Department takes very seriously the conduct of its employees," Murphy said in the statement. "We are fully cooperating with the Collier County Sheriff's Office in reference to this investigation."
