1 person dies in crash involving scooter in Marco Island

One person is dead following in crash in Marco Island on Thursday morning. 

Wayne Ploghoft, 63, died after his scooter crashed with a 2019 Ford driven by Bart Drake, 57, at the intersection of East Elkcam Circle and Collier Blvd., according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ploghoft was traveling north, approaching the intersection at Collier Blvd., when Drake made a left turn into Ploghoft's lane, according to the news release. 

Drake was charged with a violation of right of way, according to the news release.
