Dining review: Hurry for Eurasia’s summer special for two

You might think having an entire restaurant to yourself for an entire dinner is reserved for the most upper of crusts. While my crust is more of the upside-down variety, I did get  the opportunity to experience how the other half lives on my most recent dining out.

Call it a combination of summer, late-lunch to early-dinner dining or the fact that they are mere weeks away from closing for the summer, but I had Eurasia in East Naples all to myself.

What is Eurasia, you ask? So did I. So what happens when an Italian man and a Vietnamese woman with a flair for compromise unite in holy wedlock and decide to open a restaurant? You bet Eurasia!

Naples restaurants:Five of the best things we tasted in June

My partner in dine and I took advantage of the two for $44.95 summer special which includes a bottle of wine, two side salads and entrees; but hurry, there’s only one week left before they close for August and September.

My house salad came with blue cheese dressing, while my friend in food choose the ginger dressing. Both salads were so, so and were outshined by the dinner rolls and butter. Hot, fresh yeasty goodness is always a good way to start your meal, unless your health conscious.

My dinner was the lasagna, layers of meaty, cheesy goodness in the restaurant’s signature tomato sauce. My two favorite things about this dish: there was sausage as well as beef, which is often not the case; and the sauce was transcendent. I feel like I overuse that word. But it works.

My companion had the basa marechiara, a white fish filet sauteed with garlic olive oil, diced tomatoes and fresh basil. The diner has the choice of pasta or baked potato, and he chose the latter.

The sauce, again, was pure perfection, with a great balance of flavors; including a best-use award for the basil. It was as if you had been transported to a little town in Italy, where they cultivated their own tomatoes to go with the catch of the day.

See you again in the fall? You bet Eurasia!
