JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Jaguars' Urban Meyer really wanted Florida WR Kadarius Toney with No. 25 overall pick

NFL coaches are usually tight-lipped about the players their teams hope to select on draft day. So forgive rookie coach Urban Meyer for providing perhaps a bit too much of a peek inside the Jacksonville Jaguars war room over the weekend.

Even though the Jaguars had to be pleased with taking Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence No. 1 overall in this year's NFL draft, Meyer told ESPN's College Game Day that it "broke his heart" to see former Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney go to the New York Giants with the 20th pick, five spots ahead of Jacksonville's second selection of the round.

"You watch him play, he's a human highlight reel," Meyer said.

The New York Giants traded up in the draft to select Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney with the 20th overall pick.

The Jaguars ended up selecting Lawrence's college teammate, running back Travis Etienne, when their turn arrived.

Meyer still seemed pleased with the addition, even if Etienne may have been the team's second choice.

"He's much more than a running back," Meyer said. "He's a guy that had a lot of production in the passing game at Clemson. He's got excellent hands and he'll be dual trained."
